BIOGRAPHY
Liao Jiekai is a filmmaker and artist with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Beginning as a self taught videographer and editor, he had worked extensively in video installations in his formation years, and had exhibited both at the Singapore Art Museum, “Ideas and Idealisation” (2003), and internationally in Prague AVU Gallery, “Collateral” (2006). He was the studio assistant to Singapore Artist, Cheo Chai-Hiang and was chosen to be an intern at the Singapore Pavilion at the 2005 Venice Biennale. In his two years in Chicago, he made short narrative films vigorously, both in 16mm and video. In Summer 2007, he was hired as the Art Director for the Singapore Short film, “Blank Rounds” with Mirtillo Films. At the same time, he also received a grant from the Singapore Film Commission to realize his short film “Clouds in a Shell”, which premiered at the 21st Singapore International Film Festival and screened at the 13th Asian American Showcase at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago.
